week 5

TicketBooth

Reflection:
This assignment is difficult. I could not understand the steps given in the pdf file and couldn't complete this assignment

Track

After outlining the plane layout:

Extrude:

Extension:

Curve:

Reflection:

Track was slightly above average when it comes to level of difficulty for me. I had fun doing track. I love the extra materials we had to do for track thus I added funky colours to it.

Washboard

2.7E MM_Washboard Materials.pdf

Reflection:

I think washboard has got to be my favourite among the assignments given. For some reason I enjoyed modelling this washboard.

Train

I basically modeled different polygons and created the train above.

Reflection:

I think I did pretty badly for the train. It was a simple object to do yet it was hard for me to perfect it.

Block Modelling

Created a rectangle polygon, selected the edges and beveled it. Then, I duplicate the layer.

Duplicated.

Did boolean for the middle of the triangle from a cylinder

These are all of the blocks layed out on Maya

Reflection:

This assignment was quite frustrating for me to do because the Maya program in my Macbook was corrupted. It was very tedious for me to do this assignment as it halts with every action that I do on the program.

I re downloaded the program many times and yet it was still giving me problems. In the end I downloaded Maya on the desktop and could only finish my work at home. Finally I uploaded the assignment.

I had a bit of problem with the bevel tool since it was my first time trying it out. Over time it was pretty easy to use.

Cardboard Box Modelling

First, I created the cube and adjusted the edges and vertices accordingly.
Then, I selected the top face of the cube and extrude it to the bottom of the cube.
After that I selected the faces at the sides and extrude them upwards.
I also selected edge ring tool for different sides of the cardboard.

In the end, I created the wave on each end of the flaps and smoothed the cardbox.

Reflection:

Cardboard modeling was QUITE challenging for me. It was difficult to grasp what the instructions on the PDF files were trying to say. So I did as much and tried to make the cardboard look as alike to the one on the PDF file as much as possible.

Week 2

Polygon Selection

Selected faces:

After turning on backface culling:

Gear

After selecting the edges around the ring, I used the extrude tool to adjust the size of the teeth for the gear.

Reflection:

I learnt how to to extrude and select faces on week 2. I feel that this technique is useful for the future.

Week 1 (PRIMITIVE ROBOT)

Creating Primmy!
Highly destructive! Primmy has been caught by a virus. Human have to stand back in order to not get killed.

1)

2)

3)

Modified Robot!

Modified robot. This robot is slightly larger than Primmy to stop him from destruction. It has compartments in the upper and lower part of the body which holds weapons necessary to reboot Primmy.

1)

2)

Companion Robot!

Mini!

Reflection:

Basically, modelling the primitive robots were pretty easy because it mainly consisted of polygons. It took time to get used to the functions and keys in Maya.

Sketches

Exercise 2

Mammoth Tank:
I have briefly drawn out the primitive shapes of the tank at a top right angle view.

Lego Man:
First, I drew out a sketch of the lego man as a whole, then separated different parts of his body and sketched primitive shapes of the parts at a top right angle view as well.

Exercise 3 -
Prison vs Disneyland

The prison has much more ridged edges, the walls are not smooth or rounded. If I were to break down the different shapes of the prison, I could up with simple polygon shapes. The expense spent on the prisons were obviously low since not much architectural design was put into the prisons. This is understandable since prisoners are confined in a disciplined and strict area.

However, the buildings in Disneyland are made with a variety of shapes (Rounded, curvy, soft edges) which were altered and molded to the perfect design. Since Disneyland caters to mostly children, families and is a tourist attraction, its buildings has to bring a fun and happy atmosphere. In this case, Disneyland probably spent quite a sum of money on its buildings.
